Ancient and Modern Olympics

Have you been learning about the ancient and modern Olympics?  I have and these are the factors; countries, prizes, sports, events, participation, preparation, equipment and timeframe I have been looking at to compare and contrast the games.

In the ancient olympics women were not allowed to participate or watch their sons compete in any sports, like boxing. If they did get caught watching them they would get pushed off a cliff.  In the modern games women can watch their son compete and won’t get thrown off a cliff.

In the modern olympic games everyone can participate and they don’t have to be from the greek continent, but in the ancient games they had to be from the Greek continent and could speak Greek.

If the athletes come first second or third in the olympics games they receive flowers and gold, silver or bronze medals, but in the ancient games they would get a red ribbon tied around their arm.

In the ancient olympic they make promises to Zeus, later on they had a big feast.  At the end they have another big feast.  In the modern olympic we have a opening ceremony before the games start and a closing ceremony after the games are finished.

In the modern olympics they have many kinds of sports and they are: sprint racing, boxing and wrestling, fencing, taekwondo, hockey, football.  In the ancient olympics they only had wrestling, boxing, chariot racing and sprint racing.

The olympic games happen all over the world and they pass the flag onto the next country until the next olympic venue happens.  The ancient olympics were only held at Olympia in Greece.

The modern olympics are better than the ancient olympics because everyone can participate and take part in any sports, and women won’t get thrown off cliffs if they’re caught watching.

Inter school Socer

It was the inter school soccer game and we had to play the other year 7 teams we came first place at the end, and we had a fun time celebrating.

Wood work

This is a very smart looking photo at wood work.  We all had a great time, and got to take our projects back to school on the last day.

Tui Report

A Tui is covered with black feathers, but the other part of its body is not covered with black and that is its chest. It has a white tuft on its chest.

You will mostly find them around New Zealand because they are New Zealand natives, but you will also find them on offshore islands.  The like to visit a place with good supplies of nectar.  They spend most of their time in the forest and scrub.

Sometimes parents move to offshore island to lay their eggs.  Tui usually lay 2-4 eggs, and it takes 2 weeks for the eggs to hatch.  In November and December they have their nesting season.

The Tuis are first to sing in the morning, and they also have a wide range of notes.  Their voice is like the sound of the bell notes, croaks, coughs and squeaks.

The mother Tui feeds her babies tiny insects and nectar in the first few days.  The older chicks start eating berries, moths, spiders, and larger insects.  Their favorite foods are berries, fruit, insects and nectar.
